Chair & Ottoman are here!

The chair and ottoman are here! And they look fantastic. Another big thank you to Grandma and Grandpa Smith for this amazing gift. Here's a peak.

You know I had to include a shot with the curtains. I can't believe how similar the tans are. Although tough to see here, almost an exact match. I guess we're just that good. =)

Paint Color Picked, Nursery Painted - Check

Thank you to everyone who shared their vote on last weekend's post about paint color. I received several comments via e-mail, Facebook and in person in addition to those posted on here. We made a decision and Joe went to work. We ended up going with Rocky Bluffs, which was the first of the square samples. It was the grey that had the least amount of other random colors (green, blue, tan, brown) in it, which is what ruled out every other color. This did end up being an easy choice for us, once we got some paint on the wall.

I think it looks fantastic and am getting even more excited! Just a few more small things to do (paint doors and base boards, replace light fixture, replace closet door knob, replace blinds), then we can start putting this bad boy together.

The rocking chair and ottoman have arrived and Joe is picking them up tomorrow!

This is going to be a whirl-wind week, as we prepare to leave on Friday to head to Iowa for a baby shower. We are super excited to see everyone that will be able to make and will miss those who can't. Not sure how much progress we will make over the next week in the nursery, but we will have plenty to talk about.

Baby update - the little man is starting to really make his presence known. What I thought were kicks before seem like flutters to the karate chops, somersaults and head-butts that are going on now. It's awesome, and I can't help but smile every time he moves. I also got the results of the glucose screening back with normal levels - YEAH! That 24 hour sugar fast was rough. With everything else a pregnant woman isn't allowed to do, taking sugar away is just down right mean. We've been reunited and all is right with the world again.

28 weeks - Hello Third Trimester

The third trimester is here! I can't believe how fast this is going. This is going to start getting real really fast!

Definitely growing, but still lucky enough to feel pretty darn good. No complaints really except for heartburn and not being able to get comfortable at night. After about two nights in a row though, I'm usually so exhausted that it doesn't matter. It certainly seems to go in waves.

This week I get the glucose test for gestational diabetes. Woohoo! Can't wait! Then the doctor's appointments start happening every two weeks.

I'm feeling a lot more movement from the little man, and in different places than I used to feel. He doesn't like me to cross my arms over my belly and isn't afraid to let me know. It's a little strange when I'm in a meeting at work and my arm casually jumps. Not only strange, but distracting. I usually bust out laughing.

I hope Mother Nature starts to be a little kinder as I get bigger. We're on day 20-something in a row of at or over 100 degree temperatures. I honestly quit watching the weather around day 4 because it's just depressing. The local weatherman has resorted to rain dances on the air, which don't seem to be working. Fingers crossed we get a little relief soon. I just don't even want to go outside longer than to get the mail.

Paint Samples in Action

So this weekend's objective of pick the nursery paint color is well underway. Joe and I were able to agree on five colors this morning, so I headed to Lowe's to pick the samples up and started painting away. My apologies for the poor photo quality, I can only do so much with a point and shoot camera on a timer.

Don't worry - just the small squares you see is all I painted, so no fumes for the baby. Here's a shot of the curtain against the samples.

Feel free to give your opinion. The colors from left to right are: Rocky Bluffs, Rugged Suede, Aspen Gray, Wet Pavement and Hazy Stratus. Fingers crossed Joe and I can narrow it down tomorrow so he can start painting this week on his days off.

Queen of the Swatch

The name of the game is pick a paint color for the nursery. This mission is turning out to be a little harder than I thought. We picked colors for every wall in this house, but why does this appear to be so darn difficult? Joe grabbed a few paint swatches from our neighborhood Lowe's and I wasn't convinced.

The more I looked at these swatches against the curtains we previously ordered, the more I wanted to change the paint color. So...back to Lowe's.

I get back home, and start pooling all of the swatches together (feeling like the Queen of the Swatch) and I had to take a step back. Of course I was able to narrow them down to a handful, but I was hoping to make a little better progress than that.

This weekend's objective is to narrow these bad boys down to a few favorites and head back to Lowe's for some samples. I am convinced that getting some paint on the wall will help me make the decision and we can get this thing done. Stay tuned...

Nursery Update - Curtains & Pennants

A few weeks ago, we decided to order the curtains for the nursery so we could get started on the beginning stages of pulling the room together. They are in!

I can't wait to start putting swatches up against this bad boy so we can move onto samples, and painting the room. It's time.

On another note, Joe had a great time looking for pennants for the nursery. We decided this is how we would incorporate our teams into the room. One item per team, that's it, no over-kill. In honor of the vintage sports theme we have started, he found several very old pennants and we pulled the trigger. They arrived and look as good as we were hoping. Here's a peak at 4 of the 5:

Because the baby will be born in 2011 and the Mavericks won the NBA Championship this year, we thought that would be an appropriate addition. We will be picking one up for the nursery and I'm sure it will make an appearance in a future post.

4th of July Weekend fun

I love 4th of July weekend! I was fortunate enought this year to enjoy my husband's company all day Monday. We did a couple of untraditional things this year. First off, enjoying a Rangers game together on Sunday night. We had fantastic seats and while they lost, we had a blast!

Joe's parents came into town Monday to so his dad could help Joe work on the A/C in his car. Fingers crossed, they did the trick. We had a nice time visiting with his parents and did our fair share of talking. It's always nice to have a visit, especially an unexpected one.

This week will be busy with paint swatches and figuring things out in the nursery. That means more blog posts and pictures, as I've got a few things up my sleeve already. Until then, I hope you all had a great holiday weekend and aren't struggling too hard to get back into the swing of things.
